Description:

Gakundu Coffee Factory is located in Embu County, central Kenya, on the slopes bordering Mount Kenya, one of the world’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. Operated by the Gakundu Farmers Cooperative Society in the Ngandori West area, the factory processes coffee from local smallholder farmers cultivating traditional Kenyan varieties including SL28, SL34, Ruiru 11, and Batian.

Situated at approximately 1,650 metres above sea level, the region’s rich red volcanic soils, cool temperatures, and reliable bimodal rainfall create ideal conditions for producing vibrant and structured coffees. Farmers in the area harvest across two annual cropping seasons, with the primary harvest running from October through February.

This washed lot showcases the classic elegance of Kenyan coffee, balancing juicy plum sweetness with soft pear acidity and warming spice notes. The meticulous washed process brings exceptional clarity and structure to the cup, highlighting both the vibrant fruit character and refined sweetness that define Embu coffees.

Through careful cultivation and traditional processing methods, Gakundu continues to produce coffees that reflect the remarkable terroir and enduring quality of Kenya’s celebrated highland coffee regions.
