What Panorama Coffee say

Smallholder farmers deliver their harvest to Gedeb Drying Station, where only the best cherries from trusted local growers are processed. Gedeb Drying Station, rented and managed by a woman-led exporter, is dedicated to empowering female farmers and supporting Ethiopia’s coffee sector by creating new opportunities to use coffee to drive positive change.

The coffee selected for this lot was shade-grown under native shade trees and grown on small plots between 2,150 and 2,200 meters above sea level. The cool climate and high altitude help the cherries mature slowly, promoting the development of complex sugars and acids that lead to vibrant acidity, floral aromas and layered fruit flavours. No chemical pesticides or fertilisers are used.

After careful handpicking, the cherries are floated to remove any defects, then dried on raised beds for 12 to 15 days, depending on the weather. Local women hand-sort the coffee during and after drying to ensure quality. Once dry, the coffee is sent to Addis Ababa for storage, then transported by rail to Djibouti for export.

In the cup we enjoyed floral and fruit notes including jasmine, blueberry and black tea.
