About de Lacey Coffee Roasters
de Lacey Coffee Roasters is a Tasmanian family owned business celebrating over 30 years in the coffee industry.
Our founder and Director Darren de Lacey has spent much of his life invested in his passion for coffee.
He spent time in Papua New Guinea where he provided roasting and product development advice, while at the same time, learning much in his early days visiting coffee nursery’s, plantations, growers and processors.
This time and experiences were foundational to his coffee journey ahead.
The generosity and hospitality of the Papua New Guinea Highlanders left a profound and indelible mark on him, he quotes:
”It is very grounding when you witness a bag of coffee cherry being pulped by hand with a large stone in a small stream, then a 100kg bag of parchment tethered to a spar, being hauled out of a remote village on the shoulders of two of the strongest men I have ever seen”
We still play a role with P.N.G. and enjoy roasting many of their great coffees.
