ABOUT THE FARM / REGION / COFFEE
Café Granja La Esperanza (CGLE), based in the Valle del Cauca region of Colombia and managed by brothers Rigoberto Herrera and Luis Eduardo Herrera, has built a reputation for pioneering rare coffee varieties and meticulous processing.
Their farm “La Esperanza” sits at altitudes between approx. 1,400-1,860m above sea level, where Laurina is among the varietals grown under careful selection and innovative processing methods.
The Laurina lot is a naturally low-caffeine variety (also known as Bourbon Pointu).
It is processed naturally (whole cherry drying), with strict cherry-ripeness criteria (high Brix), careful fermentation and sun/solar-drying protocols. The rarity of the varietal and the precision of production mean this coffee stands out among specialty offerings.
Laurina is a distinctive Arabica mutation recognized for both its unique growth traits and refined cup profile. The plants are naturally small and compact, often described as “dwarf” trees, which makes them easier to manage but less productive. Due to its naturally low caffeine content, Laurina is more vulnerable to pests and diseases since caffeine normally acts as a natural deterrent.
