About De Groot Coffee Company

De Groot Coffee Co. was founded by Trevor De Groot and Bernadette Stack, who opened Espresso Royale, a small organic coffee house with a red verandah on Magill Road in Adelaide, back in 2008.

Coffee had already been a long-term infatuation for the couple. Before Espresso Royale, Bernadette sold coffee from a van affectionately known as The Cappuccino Queen , launching the business in 1998 — back in the days when froth had to be big. Trevor shared the same pull toward coffee, craftsmanship, and the way good coffee brings people together.

It was here that De Groot Coffee Co. roasted its first batch of single origin coffee beans in a shed behind Espresso Royale to supply to the cafe.

De Groot Coffee Co. has been up and operating in the little surf town of Port Elliot since 2014. The move was a whole-of-life change for their family – a doubling down on their commitment to good coffee, strong community and happy days. The company has grown but always maintained the approach of ‘quality over quantity’ when it comes to life and business. Serving single origin coffee only, De Groot is a little different to most roasters. Come and visit us in Port Elliot for a cup or grab a bag of beans online any time.

We’re proud to be part of the Port Elliot community and to support local schools, sporting clubs and community groups — including the local bodyboarding club. We like to think we have more in common with our customers than just coffee, and we believe businesses work best when they’re

genuinely connected to the people and places around them.

Running De Groot Coffee Co. has always been a lifestyle choice. The business is guided by a quiet, triple bottom-line philosophy — people, product and place — rather than KPIs or aggressive growth targets. Growth has come naturally, through the quality of the coffee and the relationships built with the cafés who serve their beans, and the customers who visit the roastery cellar door.
