What Industry Beans say

Chiroso, once thought to be a genetic mutation of Caturra, has recently been identified as an Ethiopian landrace variety that somehow found its way into the mountains of Antioquia, Colombia. It is prized for offering the complex florality of a Geisha, often paired with a more substantial body and distinctive fruit notes.

Betania Farm is part of a thriving network of 117 smallholder producers in southern Huila, a region internationally recognised for its exceptional terroir and dedication to quality. These producers work together under a shared philosophy: farming with respect for the land, preserving traditional methods, and avoiding the use of chemicals that compromise soil health and biodiversity. Their collective efforts have created a model of sustainable coffee production admired across Colombia.

The group has invested in shared infrastructure, including a cupping laboratory, professional drying stations, and centralised warehouses. This allows each producer to elevate coffee quality while maintaining full traceability at every stage.

With over 80 years of family history, Betania Farm has been passed down through generations. Following the 2014 coffee crisis, the family shifted focus to specialty coffee, introducing varieties such as Pink Bourbon, Chiroso, Geisha, and SL28, while refining fermentation techniques. This progression has positioned Linarco at the forefront of Colombia’s specialty coffee movement. His commitment extends beyond the farm - mentoring young growers, promoting environmentally responsible practices, and supporting initiatives that strengthen the local community.

A silky, vibrant coffee with a tea-like structure bursting with florals and tropical fruit for a complex drinking experience.

This rare, emerging varietal, Chiroso, from Finca Betania in Huila, Colombia is vibrant, floral and fruit-forward.

The term 'single origin' refers to coffee that is from a specific farm or geographic region. Single origins allow drinkers to experience and enjoy distinct flavours and characteristics of those regions.

Whats the difference between filter roast and espresso roast?

We roast our filter coffees more lightly, for extraction through slower brew methods like pourover, aeropress, and cold brew. We roast our espresso roasts for a longer time, allowing the beans to develop bolder, richer flavour that come through as as a stronger brew.

Our filter single origins can be brewed through various methods, including Pourover, Batch Brew, Aeropress, French Press and Cold Brewers.

That's completely up to you! As a good starting point, 500g of coffee a month can make about 1-2 cups of coffee a day. And as you get to know your usage and purchase higher quantities, you'll enjoy better pricing.
