What Padre Coffee say
We’re excited to welcome back another standout lot from Gachatha Factory, a cooperative we’ve purchased from for many seasons. Grown in Nyeri, between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare range, this washed AA lot delivers everything we love about Kenyan coffee: clarity, structure and vibrant fruit. Expect notes of orange, red currant, chocolate and nougat, with a coating mouthfeel and a sweet, sustained finish.
Gachatha Factory has been operated by the Gachatha Farmers Cooperative Society since 1963. Today, the cooperative has around 1,050 members, with approximately 900 active smallholder farmers delivering cherry to the factory. Most members tend around 300 coffee trees on less than one hectare of land, often growing food and cash crops alongside coffee to support household livelihoods.
The factory sits at 1,800 MASL in Nyeri, one of Kenya’s most renowned coffee-growing regions. Positioned between Mount Kenya and the Aberdare range, the area benefits from deep red volcanic soils, high elevation and abundant mountain water — conditions that contribute to the intensity, structure and acidity Kenyan coffees are known for.
This lot is made up of Batian, SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11. SL28 and SL34 are classic Kenyan varieties known for their cup quality and structured acidity, while Batian and Ruiru 11 bring resilience and productivity in the field.
The flavour opens with sweet, juice-like orange acidity, moving into structured red currant through the mid-palate. Chocolate and nougat bring weight and sweetness to the finish, creating a vibrant, coating cup with a beautifully balanced close.
Washed process – Batian, SL28, SL34 & Ruiru 11 varietals processed at Gachatha Factory in Nyeri at 1800 MASL.
