Today, many specialty coffee roasters seeking high-quality lots will start looking at Panama first - because they are simply that good, it's always an aspirational origin.

However, it's now a situation that has become much more complex - supply is restricted/limited, and the coffee is far more expensive.

We have always loved Panama coffees; just like Costa Rican coffees, they are so perfectly prepared - always on point.

But it's getting complicated, especially since the prices of raw coffee doubled in the last 18 months.

Panama coffee commands significant price premiums compared to other origins in Central and South America.

To range this coffee, we end up paying more dollars per kilo for Panama.

With limited supply and high prices, Panama has positioned itself out of reach in the global coffee market, except as a luxury indulgence and a special treat.

Panama's coffee industry's future would appear destined to continue on the same path.

It's a shame, actually - Panama produces lovely, consistently high-grade coffees.

A delightful note of poached apple and peach develops on the mid-palate.

For those of you who have never had an excellent Panama coffee - now is the time to get into it. We are still determining if it will find a place in our extensive portfolio in the future.

Grown at 1600 metres above sea level from Caturra varietal in dark volcanic soils surrounded by an ideal micro-climate.

Guide - You can treat Panama coffee with a similar technique to Colombia and Peru. This is a washed lot with hard and dense attributes to require a slightly finer grind. We find the best-tasting extraction comes from a tighter shot.

This is truly a superb coffee with sweet fruit and chocolate notes.
