What Fox Coffee say
This one comes from Mr. Berhanu Kurse, who farms 12 hectares in the village of Gotiti in Ethiopia's Gedeo district, part of the wider Yirgacheffe region. He inherited the land from his parents, and his own children now work the farm alongside him, running smaller plots of their own. Coffee is the family's main income, covering everything from school fees to healthcare.
It's part of the Single Farmer Project, which means this lot is traceable straight back to Berhanu's farm, with his name on the contract and the price negotiated directly on his behalf.
A natural process coffee, ripe cherries rinsed and dried slowly on raised beds, which is exactly where that tart red fruit and rhubarb character comes from.
Yes. This one's roasted specifically for filter brewing so the fruit and acidity stay bright and defined instead of turning muddy. V60, Kalita, batch brew, Aeropress or a gentle plunger, that's where it's meant to shine.
It's a natural process. The cherries are rinsed clean, then spread on raised beds and rotated constantly as they dry, which can take anywhere from 8 to 25 days depending on the weather. That slow drying with the fruit still on the bean is what pulls out the red fruit, blood orange and rhubarb character instead of something more subdued.
It's one of the most famous coffee regions in the world for a reason. High altitude, thick vegetation and small producers growing mostly organically, all of which tends to produce vivid, fruit-forward cups. This lot sits right in that character, just with the added bonus of knowing exactly whose farm it came from.
It's tart, not sour. Think the natural tang of rhubarb and blood orange rather than anything sharp or unpleasant, balanced out by a proper sweetness underneath. It's lively, not aggressive.
Red fruit up front, a hit of blood orange through the middle, and a tart rhubarb finish that keeps it interesting sip after sip. Bright, juicy and about as far from a boring cup of coffee as you can get.
So you get your coffee FAST!
