What Omar & The Marvellous Coffee Bird say
This coffee is fragrant and complex with a hint of citrus and stone-fruit.
Varietal: Batian | Ruiru 11 | SL28 | SL34
Processing: Washed
This coffee comes from Kieni Factory, a washing station near Karatina in Nyeri County, Kenya, managed by the Mugaga Farmers’ Co-operative Society. Around 1,000 small-holder farmers deliver cherries here, with each farmer typically managing about 200 trees. The co-operative supports its members with resources to improve yields and encourages participation from women and young people, helping ensure that high-quality coffee can be produced sustainably across the region. The farm sits between 1,650 and 1,850 meters above sea level, an ideal environment for the famed Kenyan varieties SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11.
The cherries are hand-picked when ripe and carefully sorted to remove any damaged or under-ripe fruit. They are then pulped using disc pulpers, washed then fermented under water for 16–24 hours. The coffee is then rinsed and soaked for another 24 hours before being dried on raised beds. During drying, the beans are regularly turned and protected from excessive heat and rain, ensuring even drying and consistent quality.
The resulting cup is bright, clean, and complex. The meticulous care and expertise of the farmers and co-operative staff, deliver a coffee that showcases the best of Nyeri County.
Coffee is exempt from GST.
