ABOUT THE GROWER: Café Orgánico Marcala (COMSA) is located in Marcala, La Paz, in western Honduras. This is one of the poorest areas in the country. It was founded in 2001 by 45 community-minded farmers. COMSA’s farmers united to access specialty markets and quickly learnt that organic farming is more than a conversion process; they began developing an organic and sustainable culture which balances the needs of business, society and the environment. Membership has since grown, and a quarter of members are women.
