Washed - Gesha - PERU
Washed - Heirloom - ETHIOPIA
Black Diamond Natural - H17 - Costa Rica
The inspiration for this coffee came from Merry-Go-Round of Life, a piece from the soundtrack of Howl’s Moving Castle.
We really recommend putting the song on while you drink this coffee and experiencing the two together.
It is hard to describe the song with just one emotion. There is joy, excitement, lightness, and a little melancholy. All of these feelings exist in the same piece of music, yet somehow, they never feel out of place. When we were creating this blend, it suddenly occurred to us that maybe a coffee could be like that too.
Like the song, this coffee has its own different flavour movements. An anaerobic natural from Yunnan brings intense ripe fruit and red wine notes; a washed Gesha from Peru and a washed Ethiopian coffee bring lighter, brighter florals and fruit; while a natural Costa Rican coffee adds more body, with just a touch of bitterness at the end.
To capture what we loved most about each coffee, we roasted them using four different roast profiles and development ratios before bringing them together as a blend.
So there is not really one correct way to experience this coffee. Different brew ratios, different water temperatures, even different people can bring out completely different flavours. We tasted melon, banana milkshake, rich fruitiness and a deep chocolate body.
We’re curious to know what you will taste.
This year marks seven years since we opened our first café, Four Kilo Fish Hawthorn.
Looking back, we have welcomed so many people into our lives over these seven years, and we have also said goodbye to many. We have gained a lot, and lost a lot too.
There has been happiness, nervousness, low moments, and many moments that moved us more than we expected.
If Inside Out were real, these seven years would have already left us with so, so many golden memory orbs.
Looking back, these seven years feel a lot like this song.
There was happiness, nervousness, sadness and excitement.
And they also feel a little like this coffee — sometimes intense, sometimes light, with a little bitterness along the way.
But in the end, what stays with us is the sweetness.
We do not know where we will be in another seven years, or what we will be doing.
So we wanted to make a coffee that could hold onto the memories of these seven years for us.
