What The Colombian Coffee Co. say

This lot comes from the many coffee farms scattered in Popayan and the surrounding areas of Cauca Department. Popayan is situated at the base of Purace volcano in the south of Cauca and is located at 1760 masl. The rich volcanic soil is one of the many things that gives the coffee cherries its characteristic flavours.

Nested at the base of the river Cauca and the nearby river Magdalena means the farms within the Popayan region have plenty of water supply and agricultural wealth. Due to its rich soil and favourable climate, the region is rich in rainforests, basins and volcanoes. The region also receives close to 1900 mm of rainfall.

Cauca, located in the southwest region of Colombia, borders the departments of Valle del Cauca, Tolima, Huila, Caqueta, Putumayo, Narino and the Pacific Ocean. The undulating plateau of Popayan coupled with the Andes Mountain Range that cuts right across Cauca creates a pretty stable climate in this region. Add to that the altitudinal features of Popayan and there’s no surprise this region is the birthplace of one of the most outstanding coffees of Colombia.

These coffee beans have been picked, washed and sun-dried on patios or parabolic beds before being selected under 17 and 18 screen size.
