Gathaithi AA

160km north of Nairobi, the Gathaithi Coffee Factory lays in a spot between the slopes of Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare ranges, a location that lends itself beautifully to terroir. The red volcanic soil here is rich with minerals and organic matter, combined with 1,100mm of annual rainfall and cool temperatures of 16–26°C, conditions are close to perfect for growing exceptional coffee.

The factory is run by the Gathaithi Farmer Cooperative Society, home to 1,542 active members. This is our seventh year purchasing from Gathaithi, making it one of our longest-running relationships! In the cup, expect juicy blackberry, orange peel and a soft mango sweetness, with bright lime acidity.
