Danche Station

Danche is a renowned washing station located in the Gedeb district, which sits on the southern edge of the famed Yirgacheffe region in Ethiopia. Known for its high elevation and rich volcanic soil, Danche consistently produces some of the most vibrant and clean washed coffees in the country.

Smallholder farmers from surrounding communities deliver ripe cherries to Danche, where traditional washed processing methods are used — hand sorting, depulping, fermenting in clean tanks, washing in channels, and drying on raised beds under the sun.

Yirgacheffe coffees come from a diverse mix of indigenous heirloom varieties, often referred to as "Ethiopian landraces." These are wild or semi-wild coffee plants that have adapted over generations to the local environment.

In Yirgacheffe, these varieties tend to express:

Bright citrus notes (like lemon or mandarin)

Stone fruit sweetness (like peach, nectarine, or apricot)

Elegant florals (like jasmine or bergamot)

Tea-like body and clean finish

The combination of altitude, biodiversity, and careful processing gives Yirgacheffe coffees their globally celebrated clarity and complexity.
