What The Maillard Project say
This coffee comes from Banko Gutity, a village in Gedeb, southern Ethiopia, where the Gutity River supports coffee cultivation. Around 2,400 smallholder farmers grow coffee in their backyards and deliver their harvests to the Gargari washing station. The small beans are known for their bright acidity and complex fruit flavours, shaped by the local varieties and high-altitude growing conditions.Hand-picked cherries are sorted by flotation before drying whole on raised beds for 19–21 days. Regular turning, hand-sorting and moisture checks help ensure consistent quality.
Once the coffee reaches 10–12% moisture, it travels to Addis Ababa for hulling, cleaning and grading, then is packed in GrainPro bags for export.Community investment includes two underground water sources built by Muje Mesina. The washing station holds C.A.F.E. Practices, Rainforest Alliance and organic certifications. This lot is sourced through Primrose Coffee, an Ethiopian exporter with 20 years of experience and a member of the Ethiopian Chapter of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance.
